How to Obtain a Kirin Tor Familiar in "World of Warcraft"

The Kirin Tor Familiar is an extremely rare and special non-combat ("companion") pet obtainable in World of Warcraft by completing the "Higher Learning" achievement. This time-consuming achievement can be easily accomplished with some patience, solid tracking skills, and an understanding of what is required. Step 1 Achieving "Higher Learning" requires that you read (right-click) on eight books scattered throughout the city of Dalaran. These books spawn in a static location once every 3 to 4 hours. Either the book itself (a "School of Higher Learning" book) or a random meaningless book will spawn. Once either book is read, that book will vanish into thin-air in 3 minutes, and the respawn timer of 3 to 4 hours will start once again. Step 2 Join the local Higher Learning achievement channel on your server. Try typing "/join higherlearning" "/join bookclub" or "/join mastery" to join. Users of these channels will often broadcast when a book spawns and whether that book is "real" or "fake." When a time is broadcast for a book, write it down. You will know to check that book's location once again in 3 hours. Watch that spot for about 1 hour until that book spawns. Step 3 Learn where each of the books spawn. Books spawn in the following locations: the Dalaran Visitor Center civic office on the floor next a stool, the Legerdemain Lounge, first floor at a bookshelf and second floor on a bookshelf, the Threads of Fate clothing store on the second floor balcony on a crate, the Violet Citadel, first floor bookshelf and second floor left carpet floor, the Violet Gate entry crystal room on the floor to the left of the door, and the Violet Hold on a crate at the northern edge. Step 4 Track which books you need. Press "Y" to bring up your character Achievements panel, and under the General tab, scroll down to the "Schools of Arcane Mastery" or "Higher Learning" achievement box, which when clicked on, shows you the list of all books and checks off which ones you have read. Each book has a specific spawn location, and as you cross off books, you will know which spawn locations you will need to patrol or watch. Step 5 Keep a log of spawn times. Using your server's channel, write down the last known spawn times of the books that you need, and then be sure to check those spawn locations in 3 hours, and watch for around 1 hour until the book appears. Careful persistence will pay off over time, but as a general rule, you can expect to spend about 1 week reading the eight books. Once you have read all eight books, you will obtain a "Schools of Arcane Magic - Mastery" tome that will teleport your character to a secret room where Archmage Vargoth will give you the Kirin Tor Familiar.
